Retreats with Ira

Bhutan

Paro and Thimphu, Bhutan

Where the mountains keep their silence.

Scroll

Bhutan is a kingdom that measures its wealth in happiness, and you feel it the moment you arrive. Prayer flags ripple across the ridgelines, the air is clean and thin and bright, and the valleys hold a stillness so complete it seems to soften the breath on its own. Here, with Ira, you practise classical Hatha and pranayama as the morning light moves down the mountains, in a land that has guarded its quiet for centuries.

These are unhurried days shaped around monasteries and meadows, the slow climb to Tiger's Nest clinging to its cliff, and long evenings of meditation and sound healing as the temple bells settle. You will eat warm satvik vegetarian food, walk among pine and rhododendron, and let Bhutan do what it does to every traveller who comes with an open heart. You arrive carrying the noise of the world. You leave a little emptier, and a great deal lighter.

In Bhutan you do not chase stillness. It is already here, waiting in the mountains for you to catch up.

Retreat highlights

What lives here.

Tiger's Nest

A guided pilgrimage to Paro Taktsang, the monastery that clings to a sheer cliff, with rest, breath and reflection along the climb.

Monastery Stillness

Quiet sessions of meditation within ancient dzongs and temples, where centuries of practice have soaked into the walls.

Hatha at Altitude

Gentle, deliberate Hatha sequences tuned to the thin mountain air, opening the body slowly as the valleys wake.

Pranayama in the Pines

Daily breathwork in the clean Himalayan air, learning to draw the breath long and steady against the high, bright sky.

Sound Healing

Evening sound baths with singing bowls and chant, the vibrations carrying through the cold mountain quiet.

Satvik Table

The morning we climbed to Tiger's Nest, Ira had us pause and breathe before the final steps. I have never felt so present in my life. I came home changed.
